Legal Update: We welcome back Pam Howland to explore hot employment law topics for 2018-2019.
Pam Howland has been litigating cases in Idaho state and federal courts since 2001 and has represented employers from around the country against claims encompassing a variety of employment laws, including claims of discrimination, harassment, non-compete, wrongful termination, FLSA, FMLA and ADA. She has tried cases in both state and federal court, has defended employers in arbitration proceedings, and regularly helps employers resolve claims through mediation. In addition to her employment litigation practice, she also regularly counsels employers on how to avoid litigation on topics related to discipline, termination, retaliation, internal policies and procedures, and evolving (and complex) laws such as the FLSA, ADA, and FMLA. In February 2016, Pam formed Idaho Employment Lawyers, a boutique firm dedicated to handling Idaho employment law issues.
Applying Continuous Improvement in HR: Deni Hoehne will share how to successfully apply continuous improvement principles in HR. Specifically, she will be talking about eliminating the “8 Wastes” and the use of a brief weekly stand up meeting at the “CI Board.” Deni has found that applying continuous improvement principles supports collaborative teamwork and improves the efficiency and accuracy of any and all processes within Human Resources.
Deni Hoehne has 23 years of experience in Human Resources, working in the IT, engineering and construction, and now heavy equipment industries. Since 2016, she has been the Vice President of Human Resources and Safety at Western States Equipment. Western States has more than 850 employees in 15 locations throughout Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Montana and Wyoming. Deni has the privilege of leading a team of 17 HR, Safety and Training professionals. Deni has a BA from the University of Nebraska in Economics and Political Science. She is certified as an STS (Safety Trained Supervisor), and has SHRM-SCP and SPHR certifications, and until last year also had the GPHR certification. She has certificates in Change Management and Talent Management and is on the Governor’s Workforce Development Council.
Dress for Success Drive: Not only is this a time to learn and network with your peers, it’s also a time to give back and do a little spring cleaning. We will be collecting new or gently used women’s interview attire to donate to the Dress for Success organization.
